Coronado Rental Guide

From McKee Properties, in Coronado since 1989

Renting out your Coronado home, or renting one

Renting out a home in Coronado means following two sets of rules: the City of Coronado’s own code, which bars rentals of 25 consecutive days or less in residential zones, and California’s statewide landlord laws on rent increases, deposits and evictions. The City of San Diego’s rental ordinances do not apply here, because Coronado is a separate city. These guides walk through each decision in order, from whether to rent at all to choosing a manager, with sources for every rule. This is general information, not legal or tax advice.

Renting out your Coronado home in six steps

  1. Decide whether renting makes sense
  2. Know what your home could rent for and what it will cost to own as a rental
  3. Pick a rental type that Coronado allows
  4. Learn the California rules you must follow
  5. Get the home and the paperwork ready
  6. Decide who will manage it
